Data tree

The data tree holds the part of the model definition that is attached to geometric entities. Where a manager defines what something is, the tree records where it applies: a material exists in the material manager, but the tree is what puts it on a particular volume.

A branch is expanded with the triangle to its left. Five branches are shown:

Branch Holds
Assign element type The element formulation and integration scheme
Assign material The material given to each part of the model
Embedded region Members constrained to follow a surrounding host
Assign contact Contact pairs and their interactions
Steps The calculation steps

Assigning to entities

Every branch works the same way. Expand it, pick the entry you want, set its values, and then select the geometric entities it applies to. The selection is stored as a named group, which appears under the entry in the tree.

An entity may carry one element type and one material at a time; assigning again replaces what was there before.

The tree can be shown or hidden with Utilities → Show data tree.
